Before opening I Sell Words, my past life (well, one of them) was at the .au Domain Administration as their Marketing & Communications Officer. One of the big deals last year were the introduction of new Generic Top Level domain names: gTLDs. Just like .com and .net, these are new "dot somethings" - .club, .shop and .travel. They work exactly the same as all the other domain names you're used to, just with different suffixes. Where you may have been shut out of an already crowded .com space, you were now free to buy domains in these new spaces.
After an insomniac night on Monday, I thought it would be cool to grab a new .melbourne gTLD - I'm now also at copywriting.melbourne. Tells people what I do and where I am! Simple! (Just the way I like it.)
Curious about new gTLDs? Find out more at the ICANN gTLD page.
